We’re kicking off a monthly alternative cabaret in conjunction with mutantspace skills exchange and Generic People on Thursday 29th January and the last Thursday of every month from then on. The idea is simple. To bring artists, writers and film makers together to create a new form of live performance with one of Corks most dynamic electronic collectives. The idea of Mutant Cabaret is to invite poets, performance artists, film makers to collaborate with the resident electronic music creators – Generic People. The artist will contribute their creativity, Generic People will contribute theirs and (hopefully) a whole new cool artistic experience will be created. Mutant Cabaret is a sort of “curated” open mic. Artists are invited to contact us with their ideas by messaging us through this page. Each artist will have a maximum of 15 minutes to perform (but less is OK too) and there will be about 4 or 5 performers on a night. Sometimes things will sound in some sort of synchronicity and sometimes not. But hey, it’s all an experiment. Why don’t you give it a go? This month we have the following acts: Generic People Generic People have notched up a well-deserved reputation for tearing-up clubs and festivals with their cutting edge Audio/Visual DJ sets. They are best known for their mindblowing DJ sets, performing an explosive, eclectic mix of pristine electronic productions with slick Dj & hardware equipment skills, sound effects, loops, re-edits, remixes & original productions. Generic People don’t believe in boundaries & can be found rocking a multitude of high energy, floor shaking genres & styles, all LIVE like you have never seen or heard before. MC Grant March Grant has been interested in performance poetry ever since he saw the documentary “SlamNation” in the late 1990s. He finally has one or two poems that are ready for the mic and will be hosting proceedings on the night Julie Goo Julie Goo is a Cork-born performance poet, singer and songwriter who writes in both English and Irish. Having been involved in theatre for most of her life, she performs her politically driven, social conscious poetry with ease and grace. Goo writes her poems for the stage rather than the page, and has received many standing ovations for their delivery. She performs at various venues and cabarets around Ireland. Julie is one of two Cork poets chosen to travel to Coventry later this year, to perform her poetry, and this trip is funded by the Cork City Council. She was crowned Munster Slam Champion 2013 and came 3rd in the All Ireland Slam. Emily Davis-Fletcher Emily Davis-Fletcher is from Missouri, USA. She received a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Stephens College in 2006. In 2008, she earned a Master’s degree in Women’s Studies from NUI, Galway. She has read her poetry on local radio and at numerous events. She has lived in Cork, Ireland for many years, and is a co-organiser with Cork Feminista. Michal Weber Michal Weber has been playing jaw harp for 20 years and feels that if played properly "Nature itself sings through it and that's why jaw harp sounds ok with almost every genre or style". Folk music has helped shape Michal's jaw harp style, specifically Scandinavian/Nordic, Siberian, Balkan and Indian. Symphonic music has also been a source of inspiration, as well as Metal, where mouth harp is commonly used in Black, Viking and Folk (Belgium, Switzerland) subgenres. Michal also creates electornic music and includes Gershon Kingsley and Jean Jaques Perrey, grandfathers of synthesizers and electronic music as motivation for his own journey in this area. Michal is also involved in projects including jaw harp, synths and poetry (soundscapes and spoken word) and is working on an experiment containing his own writing. Bande des Cons Bande des Cons are a group of guitar-centric drone-scapists who also have an interest in the topology of noise If you’re interested in getting involved email moray at admin@mutantspace.com or Grant at grantmarch@gmail.com
