On Monday 29th February @ 7pm there will be a charity fundraiser for the Suncokret Centre for Community Development in Croatia, a non-government, non-profit organisation that was founded as a response to the needs of the community in the after war period (Croatia’s War of Independence 1991-1995). For nearly 20 years the organisation has significantly contributed to serving the needs and interests of their beneficiaries and the communities in which they work. The principles of all Suncokret programs and initiatives are: social inclusion of marginalized individuals increasing access to information, education and non-formal education and activities active participation and empowerment supporting positive initiatives equal opportunity initiating co-operation, mutual respect and appreciation of differences democracy building and community development voluntarism and altruism shared responsibility Suncokret aims to: improve the quality of life for all, especially for deprived members of the society promote community rebuilding support development of a sustainable democratic civil society address psychological, social and cultural consequences of the social upheavals in the region Suncokret promotes participation through the availability of educational activities, internet and media access and offers information and a variety of opportunities to an isolated and marginalized post-war community as well as hosting international volunteer groups every summer. On the night there will be music and DJs and all we're looking for is you to have a good time and give a few quid towards this very worthwhile NGO.
